Sini Majuri's Icy Cocktail Glass Marries Venetian Tradition with Scandinavian Simplicity

The Icy Cocktail Glass is more than just a drinking vessel. Each piece, expertly handcrafted in Finland, has its own unique charisma, based on the subtle details of the object. The simple yet vibrant shape of the glass highlights the details of designer cocktails and traditional beverages alike. The design philosophy behind the Icy series is to create elegant, timeless, and durable everyday objects with soul, preserving and enlivening the disappearing craftsmanship of studio-made glass.

The unique properties of the Icy glass come from the combination of ancient Venetian glass blowing technique and fresh 3D designed Scandinavian shape. The piece is blown into a wooden mold, and the rim finishing is made with a flame, creating a smooth and high-quality finish. The crackled icy surface, reminiscent of frozen ice, is achieved through a careful process that ensures each object has an individual texture.

The Icy glass is designed with a diameter of 80 mm and a height of 100 mm, offering a sturdy feel in the hand. The capacity of the glass is suitable for modern designer drinks, making it perfect for serving chilled drinks and cocktails. The interaction with the glass is based on the optical properties of glass, with the lively shadows and reflections forming an important part of the experience.

The Icy glasses were designed in 2020 in Helsinki and are studio-made in Finland. The design process was based on creating objects that the user attaches emotional value to, with the aim of making glasses that last for decades. The creative challenge was to combine Venetian tradition with modern simplicity to create harmony. The main technique in the process is crackling the glass, which required finding the perfect structure to ensure the effect remains elegant and the surface is resistant.

The Icy cocktail glasses are designed for chilled drinks, combining old Venetian tradition with Scandinavian simplicity. The glasses gain their value from their high quality and design, making them future classics. The design was awarded Silver in A' Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware and Cookware Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
